UK firms have been told ‘don’t panic’ when it comes to new data protection laws. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into force today, aims to give consumers greater control over the way companies collect and use their personal data. Larger firms who get it wrong could face fines of up to £17.5m. But the UK’s data watchdog has told small businesses it is “here to help. Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham said: “It’s an evolutionary process for organisations.”
